Banned for Being Nice: How Threads Killed My Viral Post

Threads "killed" my viral post due to a simple error. Happy New Year to me! πŸŽπŸ˜…

I’ve been working hard to build a social presence for my projects. Five days ago, I finally launched fresh accounts on Threads and Instagram.

Things started perfectly. Two days ago, I posted a Reel and a thread showcasing my browser MMORPG. The algorithm loved itβ€”it instantly hit 4,000 views and drove real engagement. For a brand-new account, this was a massive win. πŸš€

Naturally, I wanted to be a good community member. I scrolled through my feed, found another developer showcasing their work, and left a genuine, supportive comment:

"Good job!"

The result?

The moderation bot immediately flagged me as a spammer and nuked my account.

Just like that. πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

  • The viral post? Gone.
  • The account? Locked.
  • My "New Year's gift" from Meta? A ban appeal form.

There is a bitter irony here. We spend our lives building complex algorithms, yet we are taken down by a "smart" bot that can't tell the difference between a supportive peer and a spam farm.

The lesson: Building an audience from scratch is hard, but building it on "rented land" is dangerous. One false positive, and everything you've built can vanish in a second.
